wicked blood

one of my favorite songs from this band.
went to see them this past weekend with a couple friends of mine,
they are so great live.

getting deeper into this sound as of late.
perfect for the random days of "fall" that we've been having
amidst the very-extended indian summer days
...puts me in the mood for colder weather, and i love it.

who knew this combination could be so delicious?

don't know why but every time I try to get the youtube video on, it doesn't seem to let me upload it!

so apologies again for the lack of post, per technical difficulties.

anyway, feels like the travel bug has bit me yet again. I assume it's the fact that my sister will be departing for her trip in about two weeks or so, and it's making me wish I were going somewhere as well! I bet she must have felt this way every time they dropped me off at the airport... all those countless times. but despite all those times, I still want to travel more! I've spent so much time being abroad, it's finally time that (especially since I will probably be stateside for the next few years) I explored this beloved united states of ah-merrr-cuh.

the first five of my travel bucket list (for the USA):

1. NYC

the big apple. times square, central park, broadway. the lights, the bustle of manhattan, the fashion. who doesn't want to go? plus, my inner history nerd is dying to go to ellis island, and spend some time hanging out with lady liberty.

2. SEATTLE

pike's place, the space needle, and the birth place of corporate coffee chains and Nirvana and grunge. I can feel the moody weather calling me, to sit in one of their coffee shops, giant mug in hand, looking out the speckled window onto the rainy scene outside, watching as people make their way with their multi-colored umbrellas over their heads towards their destinations. yes, please.

3. PORTLAND

another northwestern city that I really want to go to. a little bit of drizzle don't bother me, especially making my way through their lush and dense forestry seemingly everywhere. then maybe I'll hop on a bike and head to a microbrewery to grab a pint before stopping by a food cart tour (hells yeah). then cap the night off with a movie brewpub. aw, yeah.

4. CHICAGO

chi-town! I've been told it's an american city based off of the layout of one of my favorite cities in the entire world: PARIS. not sure if it's true, but I definitely would love to find out some day. for my first touch down, I definitely want to check out Millenium park, grab a deep dish pizza (um, duh), and some yummy Polish food (especially at Lutnia's!)

5. A USA ROAD TRIP

this website has totally inspired me to get into my car and hit the road for a long, long vacation on the vast highways that this country has been known for. I'm feeling particularly keen on the route crossing from the pacific northwestern and all the way across to Michigan, into parts of Canada, and on to the edge of Maine, where you wind up on the shores of the great Atlantic ocean. it's no doubt the longest of the transcontinental road trips, but according to the website, it's probably one of the most beautiful.

so inspired for exploring and adventuring!
I'll put the rest of my bucket list up on a future post :)

I really do believe relationships that you have with people are what make life really worth while.

I mean, I am a huge advocate of having time to yourself, doing things alone, and being independent, but it took me a very long time to realize just how precious and beautiful it is by being surrounded with love; I guess you can say I've really taken them for granted. It's about being actively involved in each others' lives, whether it's picking up the midnight phone call to console your sister (even if you were dead asleep), ordering your bestie their favorite drink without them knowing, a surprise massage for your lovey, letting your mom relax with her iPad while you do the chores...

It's really these little signs of affection are what make life so much more real; I mean, while I was traveling, I was left pretty much on my own, to fend for myself, to attempt to break cultural boundaries to be able to understand people, just conversationally, and then maybe through that I'd finally be able to establish some kind of friendship. Yet, I've realized that while these relationships can be totally fun and awesome, it's undoubtedly the relationship that you have with the people that you spend your most mundane and boring part of life with that seem to make the greatest impact. It's because you share more than just a fleeting moment in time; you spend days and nights together and grow to understand one another on a whole other level. It's intimate, it's loving, it's definitely a growing relationship, and honestly it's that feeling of belonging, a sort of bond and unspoken understanding, that develops unlike any other relationship. It can be with your parents, your siblings, your best friends, your roommates, your significant others, your pets even! It's really a very powerful bond that forms between people (or pets).

So, while the Eiffel Tower is indeed a magnificent sight to admire, in my opinion it's nothing more than a standing piece of metal if I can't have my loved ones with me sitting on the grass with a few baguettes, an open bottle of wine, grapes and some stinky cheese.

...Despite my tantrums, my bitching, my brat-like tendencies,
he still sticks around.

I am truly blessed.

Love Vimeo. Love this video.

It's like one of those days where you just gotta throw stuff.

let's all tumbletumbletumbletumblr.

probably the last blogger on earth to jump on this,
but honestly it's only because it took me a while to get the hang of it.
and now it's sad to say I'm pretty much addicted.

It's my inspiration board,
from fashion, food, photography...

all that jazzy jazz.

Having a mini classic throw back day today.
This is probably one of my favorites.
Really, you can't deny that it's probably one of the most amazing songs ever

For "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"soundtrack, I think Karen O. did it again, and this time with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It's so edgy and raw, and yet I feel that it still somewhat retains the feel of the original by Led Zeppelin. But what really enhances the cover, for me, has definitely got to be Karen O.'s voice. Paired with the other elements of the song, it just enhances the darkness of it all a little bit more than compared to the original. But, nonetheless, I still love this song, the original and the cover.

Happy February 29, everyone! It won't be coming 'round again for another 4 years!

Eagerly anticipating the summer this year. I am already imagining what my day will look like on the first day of summer: throw on the perfect pair of shorts and sunnies, run around the park chasing after Coco barefoot, and then having a picnic of lemonade and bahn mi sandwiches, beneath the shade of a big tall tree, blasting our favorite songs from the iPhone. And then make the obligatory ice cream run. Because, duh, ice cream is summer. It's going to be great, I can almost smell the cilantro in the sandwich...

Spent some good old quality time with my two favorite boys ever. Dylan and I grabbed a burrito and some coffee before swinging by a nearby park to have an impromptu picnic, soaking up the sun (albeit the wind was a little chillier than we were hoping) while Coco excitedly embraced this opportunity to frolic in the big, wide space he rarely gets to see at home. And, not to mention, sampled quite a bit of the lawn before we could stop him. Silly dog. It's these random, simple things we do together that really make it all worthwhile.

I know I must be late, but I am really loving Of Monsters and Men's Little Talks. Such a crazy video and such a great sound! While I've seen their name before, I don't know why it took me so long to get to their music. And now I'm pretty much in love. It's strange how sometimes things like that happen, no?

Seeing this awesome band tonight at the El Rey in L.A. So stoked to hear this song, too, it's probably definitely my favorite! Dylan and I are hoping to drop by one of our favorite pizza joints right before the show to snag some of their delicious pumpkin and prosciutto pizza (it's one of their specialties and I swear it's like heaven). I can tell already it's going to be the best hump day in a really long time.

Spent a wonderful Saturday with Dylan, exploring new places and trying new restaurants. It was one of those days, one where you don't think, don't plan, don't worry, and just let go
Reminds me of why someone as neurotic as I am needs to be around someone carefree like him.
A fitting belated Valentine's celebration, I think.

It's no doubt that I love food. But it wasn't until I was browsing my photos on my computer did I realize just how ridiculous I am when it comes to documenting almost all of my plates. I mean, I don't photograph every single meal I sit down to, but wow. It's kind of shocking just how much time I've taken into documenting quite a number of them. It's a strange, satisfying hobby of mine, evidently!

Have a great weekend! Hope it's filled with lots of love and (especially!) food!
SF Pit Stop: Berkeley

He makes the best confused faces.

After our stop in SLO, Dylan and I made our way to Berkeley. Austin took us to the wonderful Yali Cafe across the street from campus, and you could tell it was one of the prime study locales students flocked to. Austin got this beautifully done latte; Dylan and I shared a chai but it came out boring. We took a quick tour of the campus before heading out to the city, and I must say, Berkeley is definitely one of the quirkiest places I have ever been.

Cold, gloomy, rainy days make me want to snuggle up in warm fuzzy socks, throw on thick fluffy blankets, and playing board games with my favorite people, all the while sipping my way through a steaming hot cup of tea or cocoa. Nothing beats the chill like that.

SF Pit Stop: San Luis Obispo

Even discarded bricks made for a photo op.

On our way up to San Francisco, Dylan and I made a quick stop in SLO. We spent the majority of our time embracing our inner-child, thanks to Donald's wonderfully colorful collection of sharpies and the wisest, most customizable couch I have ever had the honor of relaxing on. Much like Donald's abode, the little town itself was a chock full of picture perfect, artsy moments. He took us to Linnaea's where I had my first cup of Mate in their secret garden outback. Chilling in their red garden chairs surrounded by walls of ivy and flittering sparrows, it was absolutely perfect.

To my partner in crime:

I am so grateful for you in my life.
To the many more strange tooth brushes, awesome food, and incredible adventures to come.
